Matt / PA

Hello all, I thought I would share the results of my very first "Traditional" bowhunt this past season even though I'm mostly just a habitual lurker here I have learned a lot in the last year or so.

This buck (My biggest to date) was a long time coming for me here in the hard hunted woods of PA and to take it with the very first shot from my recurve on the very first day I ever carried it into the woods .....is something I will not soon forget!

I guess I'm one of those odd guys who can embrace both ends of the technology spectrum as a rep for a major compound manufacturer.(shhhh     ;)    )
I bought this bow (what amounts to my dream bow for many many years) right here on the Tradgang.com classifieds in March of this year and felt there might be a little karma from the start.

I guess I was right, and after months of serious hard practice and devoting the entire archery season to stick and string (knowing full well I would be limiting my shots and might pass routine compound opportunities), I was rewarded with the trophy of a lifetime.

Thanks for allowing me to share.

The buck scores 149 5/8" gross as a 13pt (busted G2 on his left side or he'd probably break 155")and sports a 21" inside spread.
The bow is a 62# Black Widow SA V , and I used a 220gr Muzzy Phantom on a GT Traditional to make the 23yard shot.

If anyone is wondering about the buck's eyes: He died with his head pressed against that log which closed his left eye, and his right has a ring of warty tumors encircling it. I said he was big I didn't say he was pretty.    :D

Very Nice,, Its a Big one   :)
The Bow looks Beautifull as well,

Thanks guys!  I couldn't be more proud of that deer.

He might as well have been public land. The farm I hunt gets POUNDED in rifle season and my stand is literally 50 yards away from state game lands.

cajun, you be quiet.  :)

Herdbull

Matt, Nice job!!  He is not ugly, he has character. Ha! Cool antlers.

peter c iacavazzi

Great job! Damn...They have bucks like that in PA?

I'd probably be smiling even bigger if I didn't almost knock my left eye out recovering him in that thick brush.   :knothead:  (You can see the blood in the corner) LOL

It was funny, when I told my friends that I was going to hunt the entire PA season with my recurve some of them asked the question "So what are you going to do when a Giant buck walks out and you wish you had your compound?"

I guess now we know.   :bigsmyl:

Thanks again guys!

Talondale

Hey Matt.  Congrats again on the deer.  I think you just wanted your eye to match his.

QuoteHey Matt. Congrats again on the deer. I think you just wanted your eye to match his.

Thanks Talondale (it's amazing how many guys split time between these sites. LOL)

It is sort of ironic that I bashed up MY eye when you look at that deer. "An eye for an eye" I guess.   ;)

Did you shoot this deer near Pinchot?

QuoteMatt/PA

Did you shoot this deer near Pinchot?
No, southern York Co. in the Seven Valleys area.

Thaihunter

Congrats, I missed an opportunity on a big one in Pinchot Park last year.  Most of the deer I see in York Co. are huge.

Way to hang Matt. I'm still looking for my first down here with trad. gear.

My year is ending on a pretty good note   :bigsmyl:

Indeed. I'd call that a good note, too...
