Long time friend Doug Johnson and I went into the Cohutta Wilderness again .....

We walked in the old logging road to a mound of dirt I knew could be used as a tripod for a morning pic right where Doug and I usually split up.  I kid you not, as I was setting up the camera, just moments before this pic, a bear came out of a tree not 30 yards from us.

Here's another pic of Doug on a pretty mountain slope...

Here's a really big white oak...take note of the 'strange bark pattern'....that's what a tree looks like when bears climb it year after year.

Pattern and fresh claw marks farther up...

Bears take the path of least resistance....here's the same tree and the 'divide'.  This tree has an uphill lean, and the bears alway climb this easy side, notice how the bark patterns change as the left side has been smoothed out over the years....

The acorns are falling like crazy and I don't seem to see any deer on my little place down here in Texas.  Good thing these guys are always plentiful.

Good job to everybody!  :notworthy:  Five squirrels is a limit in my neck of the woods. Great Job!

Wow I don't check this thread often enough. Congrats to all!

Hey Mike Hall, sweet looking bow and ya slayed the mighty ground griz with her eh?   :scared:  COOL! Love the hunting outfit BTW, of course we may all be dressing like that this Sat if this heat doesn't let up some.  :biglaugh:

Is there a story behind that unusual bow name?
There is always someone that knows more than you, and someone that knows less than you, so you can always learn and you can always teach

Nice to see what's going on.

Had to be away between Nags Head and Ocracoke area. Haven't even had a chance to hunt the NC opener.
This has never happened to me, before.

Glad to see y'all are having fun. Thanks to all.
Happy trails....   ('till we meet again, Dale Evans Rogers)

Thanks Mickey. Name for the bow?  No, nothing too crazy, with that big ol ding in the upper limb it reminded me of my bothers last two cars. His wife has had a little trouble in the driveway if ya know what I mean. :readit:
