What is your favorite arrow wood, and why ?

Frank V

Split hex shafts. They are very tough & made from pine. It is easy to get a heavy shaft, they allow easy straightening & tend to stay straight. I just like shooting wood. Just seems right. Frank

Cedar, They always seem to shoot the best out of my bows.

I always favored barrel tapered ash. Small diameter, heavy, great penetration. I had mine 10 grs per lb and they flew great and hit hard.

As with all Ash, you had to tweak them  from time to time but results were always positive.

Nothing on poplar, hickory, spruce, dogwood, cane, etc ?

poekoelan

Ramin. Very inexpensive and very tough. But I hear I may have to switch because they won't be selling it anymore.

Sweetland forgewood compressed cedar. A close second is the Alaskan Forgewood compresed shafts, cannot remember the wood but it was not cedar. Got a stash of them. Third is laminated birch. I like a heavy shaft and poc and the others just do not cut it in the weight department. Guess if I ever use up my forgewoods I will be stuck with strickly lam birch, but that is not gonna happen for a while,LOL.

I like the Laminated Birch myself.......nice heavy, tough shaft.I seem to break way too many POC.I really wanted to try the Hexshafts, but the average weight was going to be at least 150gr. less than my Birch at the same length, same BH,so I didn't give 'em a try......

I am with Danny, I like anything heavy. I even have some purpleheart arrows for bear hunting.

I have come to like hardwood shoot(mostly sourwood) arrows and cane arrows. They both are a lot of work and time consuming to make but that is part of the enjoyment for me...and they make excellant and almost indistructable arrows. I like knowing that I can walk out in my woods, cut a few sticks and be able to hunt with them...bows and arrows.  Pat
