I'd like to ask you guys to say a prayer for my dog, Cash. I fear the end is near for him.  He's only 4.5 years old and we've had him since he was a puppy.  He's been a great and close companion to me since the beginning.

The last couple of weeks he's not been his usual self, and, yesterday, after a couple of days of shallow breathing, started coughing up blood.  The vet visit has been inconclusive, but we discovered that his lung have a lot of fluid in them and his blood counts are really off.  His white blood cells are really high, but his red are low and his platelet count is dangerously low.

The vet didn't know what is wrong, but it could be a cancer, an immune system disease, or even a tick borne disease.  He's definitely got some type of lung infection.  We've put him on some type of antibiotic and a medicine for congestive heart failure.

We're going to see if the meds help him improve over the weekend.  I'm just trying to make sure he's as comfortable as possible and staying near him.  It tears me up to see him struggling for breath.  He has been able to sleep, but if he rolls over, he breathing is obstructed and he gets a panicked look in his eyes.  The toughest part is that he looks at me as if pleading for me to help him.

I guess I'd like to ask for you to pray for comfort for him, and strength for me and my wife.

But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Cheney,

Every thread sharing challenges with a beloved pet hits hard. I was born with allergies to dogs and cats and had to give up my terrier/beagle cross at a very young age... and have agonized to be part of all my friend's pet's lives, but...can't.

As frustraiting as that is, I CAN NOT imagine the depth of pain you must feel.

May God's Grace who created these loving animals for our companions, watch over your dog, bring healing if it be possible, and give you strength.

I believe it's true that "All dogs go to heaven"  :)  so let's claim that when they cross over, they know everything, as will we, and they will know the depth of your love.

Peace brother.  Prayers for a good diagnosis and healing, according to His Will.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers.  Cash is bounding around in the fields of glory right now.  We had to put him to sleep just a little while ago.  Tests and xrays came back showing aggressive tumors in his lungs.  The treatment would likely have killed him and we couldn't stand to see him suffer. I held his sweet head as he breathed his last.

My wife and I can't have kids, and our dogs have somewhat filled that void in our lives. It sure does hurt deeply when one of them leaves us.

Thanks again for the prayers.

Ditto on the prayers for comfort and peace that passes all understanding.

Critters give 100% of their love so they're not here our whole lifetime to figure out how to love openly.
