I talked to allen the other day and am thinking about ordering a longbow from him. About 5 weeks to get one and they strart at $525.00.I'm looking at one around 40 to 45#s and at my 26" draw.Allen will make one for me at 58".Whats everyone think of the liberty longbows?Handshock, smooth draw and speed?I'm not looking for the fastest bow but i would like one with decent speed !!  :D
Thanks .....Ron

Ron, You can't go wrong with an Allen Boice longbow. Great bow, great bowyer. I like the Chief the best. It is more R/D than the other ones he makes. Beautiful bows, quiet, smooth with excellent speed. Craig

I have a chief elite and his English.  Allen is as good a man as God put on the earth.  His bows are art.  His fit and finish are superb-I really like his satin type which allows the choice of wood to show, but dulls it down.  My chief spins broadheads really welll. You'll be happy

Kelly40,

FWIW...

I am not a long bow shooter but I can say for certain that Allen is very well respected here in Oregon and LOTS of local guys shoot his bows.

I have never heard anything negative about the "shootability" or durability of his products.

He is a stand up guy and I think it would be very hard to go wrong with him.

Beware of all enterprises that require a new suit.

Don't give up what you want most for what you want now.

I tried out a few of his bows. A Chief and and Contender. I wasn't all that comfortable with the
Contender. For whatever reason it just didn't shoot well for me.
The Chief was another story altogether. It shot very well and seemed to have some punch to it. I liked that bow. It seemed happiest with 9+ gpp arrows. If I were buying one I'd likely have him modify the grip a bit but that's a personal thing.
The craftsmanship on both bows was first rate and Allen seemed like  a great guy to deal with.

Chief:  great bow, great price, great bowyer, remarkable wait time, period.

I have a Contender and an English. I like the Contender best It has just the right amount of reflex. I will be ordering another in about 6 months. Maybe a Chief. I will try one before making a decision as I have never shot a bow that shoots better than my Contender. The English is the best shooting D style bow IMO. Both grips were perfect for me putting the arrow very close to your hand. Its all abou preference. Thats why he has three models.I bet one of his bows will make ya proud.

I just bought a used takedown Contender - should be here in a few days.  Really looking forward to putting some arrows through it.
