Frank H. Scott and Colt Archery Bows

Hello all you Colt Bows experts. I was looking through some old archery magazines and found a couple mentions of Frank H. Scott as Manager of Colts Archery line (1963).

What?

Can anyone fill me in on how Mr. Scott was able to work for Bear and Colt at the same time? Did his work as a sales rep for Bear somehow not conflict with managing another companies archery line?

I also came across a 1967 ad that featured Bill Stewart as the designer of the line, which I understand was after he left Bear, and joined Wing, Wing building Colt bows during this time period at least.

Just so no one says "different Frank Scott prolly"; Frank Scott of Bear Archery lived in Hartford, CT the headquarters of Colt, and his middle initial was "H."

That is interesting as every bow I have had or seen with the Colt Firearms markings were either made by Wing or Pearson. Never saw a bow made by Bear with Colt markings.

Thats news to me.  I've seen maybe 15-20 Colt bows and every one was recognizably Wing or BP. Al Reader could probably have answered this question off the top of his head.

I said nothing in my post about Colt bows being made by Bear- they weren't.

If you read through my post it is about a Bear employee, Frank Scott, working for Colt, nothing about Bear making Colt bows.

My point was that you would have thought if Mr. Scott was working with Colt that there would have been Bear bows sold by Colt as well. Not just Wing and Pearson. I should have made that a little more clear. Did not mean to screw up the thread.

No problem Wadde, I just wanted to make sure I was being clear. I agree now that I understand your point.

It is kind of interesting that when Bill Stewart left Bear in 1966-67, his new company, Wing, was, or began building Colt bows. Perhaps Frank Scott wanted Bill Stewart to design bows, but Bill perhaps was not able to do so until he joined Wing?

I know there are some members on here who knew Frank Scott personally, maybe they know something?

Frank Scott was a gentleman of the first water. A classic. At one time he was a sales rep for a company that had the Bear Archery Line and Colt Firearms. Colt was making Peacemakers in those days- I would guess it was in the late 60s or 70s or so. Frank lived in Maryland and I would see him at NFAA archery shoots and shows etc. One day Frank was showing the boys how to do a fast draw with a Colt Single Action Army ( ie six shooter) in .357 magnum. Being a bow guy Frank didn't fool much with details. He hit the trigger before he cleared the piece from the leather holster and shot himself in the foot or leg with the .357 Magnum. Colt fired him after that caper. I will miss Frank- he was a great story teller and a legend in his own right. Everyone loved him, and the extras he did for Dolores was typical of Frank.  Well I can tell you all right now they are having a few cold ones around the evening campfire, and Fred is mighty proud to have some real company , glad to get away from all those bunny hugging angels. Could be they are cooking liver and onions over the coals of a small gleaming campfire. We will Miss you Frank, and you did a great job of keeping Fred Bear legend on track.

The "Tink" is Tink Nathan, the noted deer scent guy.  I'm sure you've heard of "Tinks 69" doe pee, right?  I wonder what the "69" stood for.

Lon - Thanks - Tink's anecdote makes the Frank Scott/Colt connection more interesting
