Someone gave me what I think are old fibreglass arrows labelled American Arrow 40-50.

I'm guessing 40 to 50 is the spine weight range but I am wondering if anyone knows anything about these arrows? If so, any idea of what insert would fit them? And they seem old, so are they safe to shoot?

Thanks.

I don't know about the brand but I do know that I wouldn't shoot them. Good Luck!!!

Why not? What should I be concerned about? I mean they seem sound.

Slim, I would not hesitate to shoot them as long as you check them first to make sure there is no splintering or cracks. Check the ends closely where the inserts fit. Also make sure that the old nocks are safe and not brittle.
I'll bet that "raghorn", Ron Brunges, will be along shortly with more info. on your arrows, inserts, etc.

I can hardly wait... they look like they're straight out of the 60s. Shot them full length, no feathers and they seemed to be sound. Now, if I only knew which inserts would work.

Slim, I have no idea what kind of arrows they are but one thing to be careful with is if the have a seam running the full length of the shaft, if they do in my experiance I would not use them,.. Flex them real good and they don't crack, break you could be good to go. As always you never know with old arrows, but I shoot Micro Flite arrows all the time.

Good Luck and be careful.

Ron might still be resting from the Classic.
