I have been trying to refinish a '62 Kodiak..
Sanded it completely down finished with 400. wet or dry "dry"

I have about 4 small areas that will not take the Poly wipe on.

I have sanded it completely down twice and started over.. Tried sanding sealer, but it doesn't help..
The areas follow the grain of the wood, so it's not like something got spilled or applied to it, that is giving me fits, just the wood it's self.

Any ideas?

Seal the wood with shellac or Super glue before finishing to seal off the oils. Super glue will need sanding. I had this happen on a browning cobra refinish in just one part of the riser, pretty sure it was a rosewood section.

Heres a link saying the same type of thing from a woodworkers point of view.

I wipe mine down with acrylic laquer to dumb the wood down then apply the wipeon poly. It takes off the oil on the bare wood allowing the wipeon to bite and cover.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

If you use superglue, please wear a mask when sanding. Don't make the same mistake i did.

I used Bullseye Shellac on this Rosewood riser, I also used rosewood veneers in the limbs..I sprayed the whole bow with 2 coats using the bullseye shellac, then I sprayed 4 or 5 good coats of spar urethane over the shellac. No problems so far and I just used same combo again on a bow I built a few weeks ago. I used the super glue a couple of times and it is a lot more work, plus the gas it put off was hard to deal with..

I am thinking that at this time the total area of these 4 or 5 spots, is less than the area of your  thumb nail that the Super glue is looking good.

I was kind of leaning that way to start but since others have commented on it, I think I will give it a try.

Philip-- I love Brazilian.. I have not found a prettier wood when blessed with good grain..

This particular bow  is middle of the road on grain, but great color, and at 55 @ 28 the perfect weight.

I've been away from it for a while, but not impressed with the Super Glue, at least not in a spotting type of operation..
Later today it all comes off and I start over.
Wish me luck.
