Browning Cobra 1 recurve

Anyone know when this was made? It's a neat little bow and zips an arrow out pretty good.

I got this bow years ago and never really shot it. I set it up with the finger cushions for my older daughter to shoot about 10-12 years ago.
Any ideas on what a good brace height to start at would be?

COBRA I 50" 1970-75. I'd try about 8" brace.

I just bought one in Feb. I set the brace height at 8-8.25" and it seems to work pretty good. I believe they were made in the late sixties or early seventies. Brownings answer to Bears 52" Kod.Mag and 48" Super Mag.

Just shot it at 8".This little thing spits an arrow out pretty good! I'm thinking of maybe taking it out turkey hunting.

That would be a great turkey bow. Brownings shoot good.

They do shoot pretty good. Mine is only 42#, so I'll stick with my 50# K-Mag for turkeys. But, a great bow for pop-up blinds.

I think they advertised it as "cobra" in '69, then 70-75 it was cobra I (cuz they started a "58 cobra 2 I guess).

One of the most comfortable grips I've ever held. It really fills you hand but does not torque when shot. Very quiet and fast.  A real good looker too. Just love 'em.

I've always liked the looks of those but never shot one.  As mentioned above they would work great in a pop up blind.

I have a 1974 catalog that says 7 1/4 to 8" brace height, recommended draw of 26 to 30", sight window is full center shot of 4 1/4".

Why does the fiberglass over the micarta on the riser always - or almost always -  develops those stress cracks? I know that it must be some kind of shrinkage going on or something else. Any one have an idea on that?

I have yet to shoot the bigger version of the Cobra, but would like to try one.  Has any one tried both sizes and have a thought on a comparison of the two?

I have the Cobra II along with a couple others....I found on my 52" Nomad Stalker it stacked badly at my 29.5 inch draw....so never wanted to try the Cobra 1...but if your draw is 28" or shorter....I am guessing it is just as sweet as the larger versions.

based on serial number I expect yours is 1970 and a COBRA I bow.  I think the first number represents the year in each series...the rest of the letter/numbers...who knows! LOL  All within years of manufacturer.....for each model of course.

Brock is correct...the cobra 1 is sweet to 28"......I liked it better than the cobra 2.....Brownings are great bows.   I have a super nice 40# rover with original case that I'm considering selling....the wasps sure are shooters
