Just wondered if there is something about this bow that I just didn't see.I had it in my watch list on e-*** just because I thought it was a nice, clean example of what appears to be a left-hand 1961 Kodiak Magnum. It sold for almost $800.00.
'61 Kodiak Magnums don't seem to be real scarce and although this one is a very clean example with a unique serial number,I just don't understand why it sold for so much.Any ideas?Just curious.Thanks.

John, I don't think you missed anything! HAHA. I think it was just a case of two guys that wanted it really badly. The next in line bidder was almost $600 out of the running behind the top two guys.

Wow big bucks. That guy has had several bows on my local craigslist that he hasn't been able to sell. I talked to him about a few of his postings he's a collector trying to downsize.

Almost looks like a purple heart sight window which still wouldn't make it that high.

OldSkoolArcher-Yup I noticed the big gap between the top two bidders and the next in line too. That's what got me wondering what do these two guys see that I don't.Was driving me crazy.I even checked the '61 catalog to see if it might be the bow pictured and perhaps that's why the high price but it wasn't the case.

zepnut(Norm)- I saw that beautiful purple-heart too but still couldn't understand why it sold for so much.I just thought I wasn't seeing something unique about the bow.I guess I'm questioning myself since my last mishap from not paying attention.
Just bought a beautiful, original Rocky Mountain recurve from E-***.Beautiful riser, premium weight, excellent condition.Didn't look at the pics close enough to see that the bow is a left-hander and I shoot right.I figured since I missed that "minor" detail I must not be seeing something on this Kodiak Magnum.

Well, whatever it was, the seller thought that the bow was a '62 or '63 Kodiak Mag that was worth a hefty $700 reserve. Maybe this was the only '61 Kodiak Mag made in '62 or '63 - a retro-bow of sorts. Whatever it was, at least three guys saw it.

Looks to me that troutbear got it in the end. I was also stunned that it went that high even for a lefty. That's what auctions will do sometimes. I see guns go at auction for way more than book value.

Exactly!  This is the crazy time of year.....you never know what a particular bow will bring on that big auction site.  The next couple of months will be interesting as tax refund time comes around.  All you need are two folks that want the same bow.....in the worst way!

If you look at his bid history, he wins everything he bids on..if he likes it, it is going home with him...there are those type guy's at every auction and on *****

johnnyrazorhead

Yes if it was troutbear that won it,not too many others would stand a chance. He won both of the two-piece Grumley's recently sold on e-*** as well.If you're up against him,you better get ready to spend some bucks. He's outbid me on more than a couple of auctions in the past and I thought I bid way more than enough to take home the prize. That's the way it goes sometimes.I just couldn't understand why this one went for so much.Glad I wasn't chasing it this time.
