Oh happy day, 64 Kodiak - PICS ADDED

A fun day!  I've been interested in older Bears for a number of years and have had several, but never anything considered classic.  Today I received my very own 64 Kodiak and I'm thrilled.  My friend and business partner Jim Jones of Firefly Bows took this on a trade as a down payment on a new Firefly, and he graciously allowed me to purchase the bow from him.  Jim's also a lefty so that helped too.    :D  

This bow is perfect for me, I'm not a collector I'm a hunter/shooter.  This bow is in better shape than I expected but it's still seen some good use and I won't be afraid to take it into the woods.  It's marked 50# but Jim scaled it at 51#, so it's a good hunting weight, I love the grip (very much like a Firefly actually) and although this is the plainest of the Kodiaks I still think it's a looker.  No holes, no twists, stress lines are not bad at all, now I'm gonna go shoot!

Well, I shot as best I could today with the gale force winds, it was fun but pretty useless for tuning other than fiddling with the brace height.

It's a thunker all right.  I'm used to quiet hybrid longbows so maybe I should say THUNKER.       I'll play with it some more for sure though.

Beautiful woodwork!  You'll love this shooter.  I've got a 50 and a 65, and they'll shoot with any of the new customs.

I ordered it in, I was thinking about ordering a bunch in special though, haven't decided.  In the mean time I believe they are available from Trad Gang sponsor 3Rivers.

I don't know exactly what you meant by "thunker"? But if you think it is loud then by all means adjust the brace height it can make all the difference in the world. Even an eight of an inch either way will make a difference.

My 58# '64 is quite impressive. I would put it up aganist any modern recurve. It may still be a tad slower but not enough for me to be concerned with. Especially when you consider it's almost 50 years young.

The '64 is referred to a "thunker" (or "thumper"?)...it just refers to the sound it makes when shot.  Which I'll say, my '64
is different sounding than my '65 or '66.

Your bow, the '64 Kodiak, is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, hands down, shooting bow Bear
ever made. A little research on the Bear history sites will confirm what I am saying. You got a real good bow!
