This is what i was talking about for the ones that can see the differences.These first edition green tips are really as slender as the 69-70 white tips,they look very different from the later ones and are better than the red tips I have seen too.What do the old timers much more experienced think about that...Don?

Felix- Don is considerably more of an "old-timer than I am but I agree. I haven't shot many redtips that impressed me as much as I wanted them to. Love the white tipped first run limbs though.  GY

I had a set of 75# White tips years ago.  Heaviest I have ever see personally.

I think I remember hearing of some 80 & 90 # limbs.

I am pretty sure that I read where Papa Bear used a 90# bow on some of his ultra big game, but I don't remember if that was with a takedown or a one piece bow.

Thanks, Grant, you cleared up several things for me.
One thing...so green tips come in all three lengths & are most desirable; and the same with red tips ,but these are least desirable? (not the first time I've heard that)

Green tips were made ONLY in #1,they are way to be the most desiderable,but these ones looks to be very close to the first run white tips,the really more desiderable.Red tips are considered fair.

Heaviest set of limbs(also heaviest weight bow I've ever hunted with) I've prsonally seen were 82# on my speckeled(came from factory that way)B Mag riser. Killed a bear in Wyoming about 1977/78, if my memory is correct. Pretty sure they were #3 limbs but what their actual weight marked I don't remember-could have been 82# or maybe that is what they were at my draw, which was 30" then. Either way they were over 70#.

I'm sure your right about searches. So far I've mostly been browsing all the old posts, asking a few questions here & there.
The first week I found this site I was glued to it night & day 'til I had covered a few dozen of the most interesting threads(like BowDoc's "Repair 101")
This site is the closest thing I've seen to a bow encyclopedia(or whole library), which is what I need 'cuz I'm just kinda startin' with tradgear & have LOTS of questions from time to time.
But what really makes the site is the people, who are so helpful to us new guys.

I am not surprised that you found limbs with a different profile, Bear produced a lot of different limbs, I had a set of 65# limbs that were much narrower on an early Green Stripe. They were quite smooth drawing, but I did not notice more speed than a set of 66# limbs from Grayling.

The Bear flyer, shows a C and B riser, and the B looks different than the Type 1 riser. The handle is similar to the Green Stripe, is this a Type II?

The early green tips I believe were built to the same specs as the originals.However somewhere around the mid 80's they shorted the limb tip lessining the recurve at the end of the limbs.But I would like to mention I also have a set of green tips that are some super good shooters bd

Thanks Don, the green tips that I had did have less recurve and were narrower; just did not remember the year they were bought. Sold the bow and limbs.
