BowHuntingFool

Hey folks I just picked up a Kodiak Magnum for my 12 year old and was wanting some info on it! The serial number is 5M3657 and has the brown wood grain riser and brown stripe thru it! Any info would be very helpful! Thanks! I'll post pics if this would help!

It is a 1965 model. the woods are Brazilian Rosewood (dark) and Bubinga. Argueably one of the very best looking K-Mags. What poundage is it? CKruse

Here you go, the catalog page. The 64 and 65 were identical for both years. Yours is a 65 because of the 5M number. From 65-69 Bear used the last digit of the year to begin the serial number. CKruse

I kinda took a chance on the purchase but the seller said he would take it back if I didn't like it! He says no cracks, no holes or blemishes on it, says its perfect. It is marked at 43#. This should be perfect for my boys 22" DL! What do you this the DW would be at 22"?

It should be about 25# give or take a couple. I would think an average size 12 year old would be ok with it. Looks really nice in the picture. Good luck and let us know how it works out for him. CKruse

Thanks CK for your help, what spine of carbon arrows do you recommend for it, I really have no idea on this one?

It's going to take something really light at that poundage and draw weight. I've had good luck picking through the lightweight cedar kids arrows, cutting the swaged metal tip off of them, putting a taper on them, and gluing a 100 grain field point on them. They "stick" lots better this way.  Black Widow Custom Bows in Nixa, MO. does a good job fixing up cedar kid arrows. You could call Vernon or Roger or John and they could fix some up just like I described. I'd start with about a half dozen. Keep 3 back and work with 3 under close supervision and scrutiny. Learning the proper, safe way to pull arrows from a bale or target butt is as important as the shooting part. Mosty, just have a good time.

Your sons going to love it.  The 64 and 65 KMags are awesome looking bows.

Its a shame Bear Archery didnt make a 60" Kodiak to match them.

Good Luck and Keep us posted. Trap

That was part of the design plan of the '67-1/2 Kodiak Hunter.  To be a longer version of the K-mag.

You got a nice one.  You son is very luckry.  He is starting out at 12 yrs old with a real collectors item.  You are comdeming him to a future of being a recurve collector.

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.

At a 22 inch draw your son will be pulling 25 pounds with that bow. Nice looking bow, nice find.

yellow bow

real nice one you got there. your son is a very lucky young man. have fun!

Horney Toad

There is a slight difference in the 1964 and 1965 mags, the glass color. Both beautiful bows.

Good call- I stand corrected Bark Gray on the 64, Olive Gray on the 65. CKruse

Get a 12 strand B-50 flemish. 48-48 1/2" Brace height should end up around 8 1/4-8 3/4" from deepest part of grip. Make sure it's a B-50 string.
