I have been shooting a PSA III recurve for the last 2 years. I have recently become interested in purchasing a longbow. I was thinking about a Black Widow longbow. I am looking for any information I can get about them. I was wondering how hard it is to switch between the recurve and longbow? I also was wondering if I will be able to shoot the same weight I am shooting on the recurve? Or will I have to drop down a few pounds. Do they draw as smooth as their recurves? Any comments would be appreciated.
             Thanks, Bill

Bill, I owned a BW longbow. It was the Greybark model i got It from a friend.I have always shot a recurve and was concerned about the switch .The first time i shot the bw i hit the mark and i found i could shoot it as good or better than my recurve's. They are sweet bows.Mine was smooth. as for drooping down in # i know mine was 55#@28"  I have always shot bows in the 70# range so i could not really give you a honest answer but it didn't feel like 55# to me. Hope

I also had a PSAIII and had a couple PLV's They are a great bow, draw as smooth as a recurve and performance seems to bight there also. the grip is diffrent from your recurve but is of a very good design. I have a buddy who is a excellent shot and really into the techical aspect of a bow, that is how consisant hand placement affects shooting etc. he finally got a widow longbow, and said its the best bow he has ever shot, and he is hitting better than he ever did even with widow recurves and tomahawk and other longbows.(he has won our state trad championships a couple times) thats shooting a 65lb bow.  said alot of it is the handle design, makes for a very consistant hand placement. The bows I had shot are dead in the hand after the shot. no hand shock at all, very solid. They are a very well desinged bow.

I have a PLII and the grip is a hybrid between recurve and longbow, making it a good transition bow. You can buy bows as good as BW for less $, but BW makes reliably excellent bows. Good luck.

I have a PL11 that I love. I shoot a PSA111 and can switch between the two easily. I had tried several of the big name longbows including a LAG from Black Widow and had about decided to give up on finding a longbow that I liked and could shoot well. I bought a used PL11 and love it. It is very forgiving of arrow spine and seems as fast as the PSA111. The PL is a couple of lbs heaver draw than the PSA but I dont notice the weight difference. Do the try before you buy or get a used one to try out then you can at least get your money back if it doesnt work out for you.

I have a PSA and a PL.  I am going to get rid of the PSA.  I like the PL a LOT.  It is 49# at 30" draw and is what I hog hunt/deer hunt with.  We just got back from TX and I shot 3 hogs with it.  One was a total pass trough and the other two would have been if the arrow had not hit the ground on underside of the hog!  I like the PL better than my PSA.  I shoot it better and it shoots a 503gr arrow 172FPS.  Try it you will like it!  It is smooth drawing and points well for me.

thanks

It has been my experience that I am able to shoot heavier long bows then recurves. Have never shot the BW long bow but do own and hunt with a BW PMA-V recurve 55#@28". Recently purchased a Massie Longhorn 65#@29". Pulls about 61#@27.5". Love it. The additional weight is not a problem.
