Bear Grizzly 58" 45# @28. I'm shooting Trad Only 340 shafts cut to 28 3/8 inches with a 50 grain brass insert and 200 grain head. I shoot three fingers under. Left and right is fine but I cannot get rid of nock high. I can see the arrow come off the shelf nock high bare or with feathers. I tried moving the nock point and also tried a toothpick under the shelf material with same results. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Tony Z.

Tony those arrows are way stiff for that bow, I bet they are not even flexing coming off the shelf. I would try a 500 spine. Hope this helps.

I too, am having issues with nock high. I am bare shafting using CE Heritage 29" 400, GT Trad 29" 55-75, 29" GT 35-55. I have been changing the spine using 125, 150 and 200 grain field points. I can control spine left to right aka stiffness and weakness. What I can not eliminate is the nock high flight. I have moved my nock from .75" to .25". Moved my cat-whiskers up and down at all heights on the string. I have not played with the shelf but will try that next.

The question is: What should I look for with in my form or release that could be causing this issue? I believe that I have consistent form. My release is to pull through the shot, hit anchor, release and then touch my shoulder. When pulling back; I pull with my middle finger first. I am shooting split finger.

Thanks!

Martin is your nock high only with bare shafts ? How do your arrows group with fletched shafts ?
I have found when using a high FOC  when bare shaftings it is hard to get rid of nock high that's why all my tuning is now done with fletched arrows shot through paper. A homemade jig is easy to make out of pvc .

Scott,

I have shot FOC for long time. I have never had this happen. I have not messed with the shelf yet but if that fails I may have to accept that it is the way it is going to be.  I may just tune with fletch and paper.

Thanks

Saviour,

I understand your jig with the PVC, but for those who do not, how about doing everyone a favor and posting a tutorial. Thanks bud

I had the same problem years ago. A knowledgable old timer told me to raise my brace height about 1/4" and try again. It worked for me

Old doesn't start until you hit three figures...and then it's negotiable

mmisciag

JW,

I will give that a go. I am at my wits end. Season in my area starts on the 15th and I have no confidence.

Brian,

I have a buddy that uses a box sitting on a chair or stool in front of a bag. The box has the bottom cut out of it and an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper taped where the bottom would be. Cheap and it works. You just need to tie down the box to the chair.

Thanks!
