After a year of multiple back injuries, sciatica/pain, and quitting the gym for my own good, I'm shooting again to get ready for October. Oh, and I also joined another software startup just to complicate matters.

Well my plan is to shoot every day with my PL prototype 50# (12-20 shots) and get back in the gym now that my back is 90% under control and start riding my MTB on the trails again.

I'm getting a lot of string slap. I will raise my brace height some, but wonder if my grip on this particular longbow is affecting things. With my heavier PLXs when I changed to a one finger loose grip ALL my slap problems disappeared. With this longbow I have to use more heel.

Do certain designs require less/more heel, or will lifting the brace height do most of the work? I shot pretty darn well too for not picking up a bow since duck season ended here in TX.

Good to be back.

Yes I have some l/b that require more heel in my grip, the ones with recurve grips work best for me.

Welcome Back Sir. I hope your healing is quick and lasting. Make sure you listen to your body, when it says to stop, STOP. Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Glad you are on your way back. If you do not have your health then you do not have much. Your committment to proper exercise and archery will pay off. I also had some neck and back issues, hate to say it but yoga helped far more than I expected...harder than I expected also.

Yep. Major league weekend warrior here, and I've never been hurt like this. I guess hurting your back AFTER deer season ends is a plus. Battling back......
