hitting left

ok, Im just looking for some confirmation I belive....

Fedora 560 one piece  60" 55# @ 28" and endless string from Fedora (non-FF). Brace height is about 6.5" to the back of the shelf per Fedoras recommendation.

I am drawing about 28.75"

This is a new bow I have only been shooting about 2 weeks.

I had some arrow left from last year that I was shooting through a bow that was 60# @ 28" These arrows are Easton Excel 400s at 29.5" long.

The fletchings were kind of wore out and a couple of the arrows were even missing a feather or 2 but I was shooting them anyway and they were flying pretty good and hitting where I was looking with 125 grain field tips.  I belive these were 4" parabolics.

I stripped all the feathers and refletched each with 5" parabolics.

I'm grouping well but now Im hitting 6-8" left of where Im looking even with 145gr field tips.

I can probably get the arrow 1/8" closer to the riser by changing to a different material for strike plate but Im not sure how much that will help as I belive I need some arrows with weaker spine.  

Any thoughts or suggestions??

Change back to the 125grn points if you haven't already tried that.

It shouldn't be shooting that far off.

I'm a chronic left shooter. I believe it's impossible to miss right.

When mine start going left of where I'm looking, I try the following remedies.

If I've been fiddling with my strike plate, and have velcro or something soft I go back to a leather or calf hair plate.

Add bow quiver back to bow... again.

Make sure I'm getting my shoulders squarely aligned with the target.

raise or lower brace height a smidgen.

Shift tobacco to right side of mouth.

One of these always works. Assuming arrows bare shaft correctly, which mine do.

Chronic left shooter here too, if I didn't miss left man I would be a great shot, very frustrating. Seems I don't miss left as often from my knees. good luck

Im not chronic left, this has just happened over the past few days.  I havent had the chance to shoot for a couple days and feel like I will get it worked out just as soon as I have some time to spend on it.

I was just looking for any ideas, you guys are making me nervous though!!!!

Cove-Creek,  If you are not a "chronic" left shooter, look to your form.  If you can video yourself, see if your string hand is flipping out from your face (loss of back tension?).  

If the left tendencies come and go, IT IS NOT YOUR TUNE, IT WILL BE SOMETHING IN YOUR FORM.  FWIW

I was joking a little. Moebow is on the money. If I don't shoot with proper form, whatever it is I do wrong seems to make my arrow go left. I expect this is pretty common.

However, I can take two arrows properly spined for my bow, the same arrows I always shoot... put an extra long wrap on one and 4x5" feathers while the other one is unwrapped and has 3x5" feathers. The wrapped 4 fletch arrow will shoot left more readily than the other. Go figure.

That would make sense, because what you're doing to the wrapped, 4 fletch shaft is increasing its dynamic spine.  Anything you do to add weight to the back of an arrow increases its dynamic spine.  A stiffer dynamic spine will cause the shaft to leave the bow nock-right, for a RH shooter, which will move the point of impact to the left.  The wrap and extra feather both add weight to the back of the shaft.

When my POI moves consistently left (not the occasional miss left) the first thing I do is check my brace height and if that's good then I know it's me.. Check alignment, check head tilt, check grip, check release and check focus......  it's one of them...

The occasional left is generally either loss of focus or a sloppy release... at least for me

Note... I generally know when the sloppy release happens.. it's the loss of focus that gets me at my age I tend to drift off frequently..  :D

I recently realized that I can shift the impact point with one of my recurves by changing how tightly I grip the handle. I shoot right with a loose grip, and the tighter I hold it, the farther to the left it shoots. A moderate grip puts it right down the middle. If I squeeze it, I shoot left.
