I tried shooting 3 under for the first time today and now I have a few more questions.  My first few arrows planted short with good left and right.  After my brain got used to the arrows falling short I noticed instant improvement.  I never changed brace height or nock point or anything.  is this unusual?  I had drastic improvement and even at some longer distances.  I think that I naybe should have tried this a long time ago.

You now have your arrow closer to your eye from shooting 3-under, which in turn is causing you to shoot lower at your normal shooting distances. If you shoot gap or split vision style of shooting, your point-on distance is now closer than it was before. Personally, I like the closer point-on distance better from shooting 3-under than with the longer point-on distance from shooting split finger. For me, it's better for hunting because I can aim at game with my arrow closer to where I want to hit. If you're not liking the difference in your point of impact, then you can try using a lower anchor point.

Was there a noticeable increase in the noise upon release?

When I try 3-under, my bow produces a loud "pop" upon release. The increase in noise in very noticeable.

I'd always shot split fingers and what I considered to be a "true instinctive" shooter, i.e., not useing any conscious aiming references. A while back I swith to 3 under useing Rick Welch's principals from his DVD's, and must say that my accuracy has improved noticably.

I think it is attributed from a more consistant / smoother release than anything else.

In reference to your question, I don't think your situation is unusual, I think it is just a matter of your brain and muscle memory getting in sync with something new. If you are consistant with your form, things should only get better.

Just my $.02. but others MMV.

Best of luck.

I thought I noticed some noise but after I looked my bow over I noticed that my silencers need to be replaced.

As far as the point on distance, I've always been a instinctive shooter and don't really notice the arrow, however I'm sure that my brain noticed.

I shoot 3 under.  I was trying to shoot a K-Mag today (52" bow).  It was exceptionally loud.  I shot split a few times and I shot quite high but with noticeably less noise.

I switched to 3 under a few months ago and had the exact experience that you did. My groups improved dramatically. I kept my nock point at 5/8" high and it seems to work the best for me. I tried moving it higher and got erratic arrow flight. I do think my bow is slightly louder shooting 3 under but it's worth the trade off to me.

Noise will always be a bit of an issue with 3 under. I shoot 3 under and almost without fail notice a difference if I play with split - even if tillered for 3 under. As I understand it has to do with the fact that the 'fulcrum' of the draw (middle finger) is a bit further from the nock, which puts a little oscelation in the string.

As far as shooting well without tuning adjustments, it depends on the bow. Most of the time I have to adjust the knock up a bit, but sometimes it wouldn't show up unless I bareshaft

If you take the nock on the string up a little you should get rid of the pop you mentioned. You are poly hearing the arrow hitting the shelf. Take it up in small increments till it goes away.

I switched from split to three under two yrs ago. Took several tries before i stayed with it. Shoot much better & no issues with noise. I shoot a 54" Lost creek Nat. No problem for me with a 26.5- 27" draw.

I can't tell the difference in noise from split to three under.  This holds true on the line or down range.  (we take turns listening down range for how loud are set-ups are.  I have a 58" PSA with a 29" draw.  When I went from split to three under my grouping was cut in half immediately...from the very first 5 arrows.

BTW...as far as noise is concerned I can easily tell the difference between carbon, cedar, and aluminum arrows of the same weight/feather set-up.  As for feathers all cuts of the same height are the same to my ear.
