After struggling with my shooting these past few months and undergoing serious shooting slump (at home and at the 3-D range); I decided to try three under and in just a few short days, I have noticed the following:

-A better sight picture.
-Cleaner Release
-Consisently good arrow flight.
-easier to use the 'gap' system of aiming.

I am kicking myself for not trying this earlier.  Anyway, thanks Tradgang for the useful information that has been provided to me, this was undoubtedly the deciding factor in me switching to 3-under. I am now going to enter the elk woods much more confident come September!

I am working on my shot sequence, and I to discovered three under, and I like it a lot. Much better sight picture, the only thing is it seems to be louder, but that is a tuning issue. Did you have a problem adjusting, it seems my shots are 12 to 18 inches low.

Bucksakemmer,  As I said in the other thread, 1/8 inch change at the nock end of the arrow will affect your arrows by 8" at 20 yards.  By switching to 3 under, you have raised the nock end at least 1/2 inch, that's why your arrows are low and why 3 under shooters have a closer point on distance than split.  Just observing a fact, not a judgement about the merits of either way.

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

Thanks Arne
It seems the more we think we know the less we do. I think that all of these things make trad more fun.
I just have to be able to put all of the info together.

Bucksakemmer,

My first 10 or so shots were extremely low.  I quickly got used to it.

I was trying like heck to use the 'gap' system of aiming and was finding I couldn't do it 30 yards or less with split finger....my peripheral couldn't pick up the arrow.  But with three finger under, my point on is 30 yards as opposed to 50 yards using split finger.

I'm fairly new to the gap system.  Previously, I was just shooting instinctive.  Truthfully, I have to 'work' at having my eyes pick up the arrow tip in my peripheral.  I'm assuming because i'm pretty new(my 3rd day) to this new style of 'aiming'.  It is coming along though.

I wish you luck on your shooting.

Changing to 3under changed your arrow position. That's why you were shooting low.

When I rotate from split (middle finger to the corner of my mouth) to 3under, my trigger finger is my anchor.
The arrow, nock point and sight picture stays the same..
