I was shooting GREAT at 20 yards but 25 or more and I started getting a bit wild.  To correct this I changed my anchor a little.  Fixed that problem up just fine and dandy.  Problem is now, when I release, the string brushes my nose.  Once isn't a problem, but shooting 20 or more arrows every day or other day... I am starting to look like Rudolph.

The string really just grazes my nose (and I don't have a big nose... really) but it is a bother.  Not sure what to do about it.  I have tried turning my head to face the target more but then my eye isn't over the string.

Second problem is that I have a real problem torquing the string (up and down, not side to side).  I shoot split and it doesn't matter if I use a glove or a tab, I still have this problem.

As I approach full draw I have to really concentrate on distributing string pressure evenly to my index and middle fingers with my ring finger along for the ride.  But the string just feels so... twisty?  Not sure how else to describe it.

The bow is 64" and I draw 28.5".  55# at that length.  It almost feels like the bow is too light, but the poundage feels right in overy other aspect.

I think this problem is fairly new.  Never noticed it until a month ago.  But it did NOT coincide with the change in anchor.

I have good back tension and my hand is as relaxed as I can make it.  I use a deep set in the 1st joint and I have checked my elbow... pretty level.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Mitch-in-NJ: Not sure what to tell you about the first problem, except you might look for just a little bit different anchor.

I do have a suggestion on problem #2, I have shot with tabs for years, and had torquing problems with the string also. I swiched to a Cavalier Cordovan tab about 7 months ago, you can see an excellent pic on 3 rivers archery, one of the sponsers on this site. it has a metal plate built into it that insures perfect string alignment on every shot, and also cures that twisty feeling you describe.

It will take at least a month of serious use though before it will begin to feel normal, it is really a different feeling tab, but once you get used to it, it eliminates so many problems with your drawing hand, and eliminates so many things that you now have to think about using a regular tab or glove that it will be well worth the time it takes to get used to it. Once used to it, it will feel completly unnatural using anything else.

You can shoot split finger or 3 under with this tab, and it works excellent using the second finger joints deep hook, which further helps you to relax your tab hand. I anchor with my thumb knuckle on the very back of my jaw bone (and use the thumb piece on the tab) With a second anchor lips touching feather. Hope that helps.

Try these suggestions:

For the string hitting nose just turn your head slightly to the left or don't lean in too far.

For the torqueing the string put most pressure on the middle finger initially in the draw.  A little less pressure is added to the index finger with the ring finger holding less than the others.

I started hitting my nose, recently, when I was working on my form.  I was over drawing a little bit. Checked my form in the mirror.... Made sure my draw arm was just getting straight with the arrow & the nose slap stopped.

When I was over drawing my groups were not consistant & left(I'm RH). The better alignment may help with the torque as well.

Hope you get it straightened out.

reddogge said it........don't lean or turn your head to the right (if your a right handed shooter)

well its funny cause i just went through the same two things.i adjusted my anchor a litttle more to the side of my face still index finger in tooth but now the string is on the right of my picture window "eye still over the arrow" .

when setting fingers on string just make sure string is strait accross the finger grooves . in the first groove i also draw most impact in the middle finger, minimal on the ring and little if not a fairly strait indexx finger.
form is everything! shoot well shoot hard.

Thanks for the advice.  I got part of it figured out last night.  Seems that I crane my neck a bit when I shoot.  Wasn't ever a problem before because my anchor was a little forward of the new anchor.

Still have the string torque problem.  I am not twisting the string side to side, but rather putting too much pressure on the string below the nock or above it.  It varies.  What I don't have is even pressure.  Still working on that one.
