I've been shooting trad gear for 40 years but still send an arrow snakeing under the grass sometimes when I hold at full draw longer than usual especially at longer distance. Whats the best cure? New Trad Gang member

Focus. I too sling some bad arrows once in a while, I've found that it's only due to me not focusing. That means, I'm thinking too much about everything else, instead of thinking about the arrow and the target. It's a recipe for disaster.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

I wish I knew as I still Yak a couple here and there.  Mostly a very poor release or fatique will cause mine.

I have an internal clock of 3.5 seconds for my shot sequence and if somtimes I go past that (comfort) time slot I can have difficulty with the shot (also if it's too short a time).

Two reasons for this first my subconscious doesn't feel comfortable holding too long and second my back muscles are losing ability to maintain push/pull control and to then pull through the shot, if you hold too long you just cant pull through the shot and just ends up a collapse of the shot.

First you need to get your internal clock set so you can shoot the same time sequence at 10 yards as say 60 yards and if you do end up holding too long you need to teach yourself to come down and start the shot sequence again i.e. only take the shot if you conscious\\subconscious are happy.

Yep, agreed. If it feels wrong, it is wrong! Draw down and start over again. As for focus. The only thing you should be looking at is the dead center of the target, not the arrow or the bow or the string.

What they said.  Concentration is off, timing is off.  Confidence is off.  You pluck, jerk, torque, drop your arm, snatch your head up or do them all.  Bill
