Moving from a compound to a recurve

I've learned a lot from this site so I wanted to help others make the transition from a compound to a recurve.

At first my aim was awful (I'm surprised my dog is still alive) so the first year I put a sight on my recurve and used a release. The next year I took off the release loop and went to fingers. This year I took off the sight. I didn't really plan it this way but it just sort of happened.

This year, w/o the site, I found my aim really good. I can shoot 8" groups at 20 yards and 6" at 15 yards. By the fall hunting season I think I will be in good shape.

I think I must have trained my brain because now it is like throwing a baseball - I just look and fire w/o really consciously aiming.

There seems to be lots of good advice on this site but I just wanted to share what worked for me.    :p

I did the same thing but the opposite way.I stripped the sites off the compound and shot w/ fingers.By biggest hurdle w/ the transition was   shooting w/out a release and the let-off of the compound allowed me a easier way to develope follow thru when shooting w/ fingers.

It works! I just got my first doe with a recurve.
