sights on trad bow`s??

just wondering , do any of you guys do this? I  no its not for me but maybe it could help my kids be more consistence. I`ve seen target archers use this but have no experience on it my self. I`m interested  in ur reply s i might learn something

I put a simple one-pin sight on my bow and it's great for consistency. I'm trying to relearn the trajectories.

Maybe use the old match-stick & tape for a "tryout" kid's sight?

It IS trad to have some sort of sight - Natives used small pieces of wood tied to the riser!  Whatever improves your shooting, go for it!

Back in my old days, before compounds were even around, I belonged to an Archery Club. There were lots of guys who used sights back then, in tournaments and hunting. There were different classes for shooters, bare bow and sights. It was amazing how well some of those guys could shoot with sights. Now ah days if a guy puts a sight on his recurve, some folks look down their noses at them. But years ago it was no big deal. It would be a big help for your kids, I say go for it.

simple old school way....masking tape on the face at the riser and use colored straight pins with the round plastic heads. cheap
and easy to adjust. not very rugged but for a quick site it works pretty good

You could also use a wooded match and a rubberband.

Put the match on the front of the bow and place one end of the rubberband around the butt, stretch it across the bow and slip it over the match head to hold the match in place.

easily adjusted for windage and elevation.

I think that if you master to shoot instinctive you have much more satisfation than using a sight. If you want to be more effective just buy a compound bow. Nothing wrong with a traditional bow witha sight but simply they are not funny and not that much more effective

Many people use pencil lines on the riser to create distances for the GAP, when learning, either as a second reference or the arrow tip or as the primary aiming, or a combination of both.  They are not legal in competitions BUT, with the pencil lines on the riser, once you get the GAPS memorized, you will be able to shoot more accurately without them.

As already mentioned, you can use a simple matchstick/rubber band (or just the band alone) arrangement.

cacciatore,I'm not sure a compound is more effective.Olympic archers use reurves with sights and are pretty darn effective.And under "some" hunting situations a recurve has advantages even with a sight.Not trying to argue here just speaking my mind.

growing up, most of my 'curves had 5 pin sights. Worked great. Am considering doing it again . In 1985, i still shot longbows, 'curves and wheels, some with sights, some without. If it works for you, go for it. Ben
