schafer silvertip setup

I bought 2 second hand schaffer silvertips with arrow rests on it...I would like to know if dave makes a specific limb setup for rest shooting bows or if they can be shot on a shelf plate on the same way...

I would suggest you email Dave...  www.schafersilvertipsbows.com.   His email address is on his website.  In your email, give him the serial number of the bow, and he can guide you as to how the bow was tillered.  Personally, my Silvertip is tillered for 3 under, and I use a Flipper Rest II.    David

I've never heard of a bow being tillered for shooting off a rest, although I could see the logic.  I'm sure they will shoot just fine off the shelf.

Some Silvertips are not made to handle modern string materials other than Dacron.  You might want to check on that if you don't already know what you have.

Just of pull the rest and slap on some shelf material...it will be fine. Bare shaft as usual and set up accordingly!!

I buy or have bought quite a few used Schafers...most were set up for off the shelf but I switched to an elevated rest. My understanding is only minor variances in the tiller account for the shelf vs. rest set ups.

Now three under is a different story...the tiller is closer to even. I have a couple for 3 under that I shoot one over and have no problems with them at all.

Any differences in tiller can be accomodated by adjusting the nock point up or down the string!

Don't shoot fast fligt unless the bow has FF in the serial number!

both of them are FF, one is 82# and the other 80#..the 80# shots very well on the shelf and not the second one, that's why I wondering if the tiller could be different...I use 750gr 2317 arrows with both of them

fourdarme, What are the bow lengths? What is the tiller? Measure the distance from the upper and lower limbs to the sting at the end of the risers where they meet up to the limbs. On mine the upper limbs are 1/8 to 1/4" further than the lower.

both of them are 60"; on the 82# the tiller is  18.3cm for the lower limb and 18.8cm for the upper: either a 1/5" difference, very close of yours...so, I made the bare shaft method test, my 2317 arrows with 250gr field points were too weak, that was the problem...it flies pretty well with 175gr field points but the arrow becomes too light for the bow's poundage...I will try with some 2419 shafts...I tested some 700gr 6075 carbon express terminator hunter 29" arrows filled with a 8gr/inch 3 rivers tube...not so bad, but the spine is still too weak...

fourdarme, spine for 80-90#? I have no idea...maybe GoldTip BigGame shafts...they claim 100# spine!!

CT Safaris will get you there. You might be able to get some laminated birch in that spine also. Grizzly stick safaris would probably get you there also.

SINCE EVERYBODY IS IN A SCHAFER FRAME OF MIND WHATS IS THE RECOMENDED BRACE HEIGHT FOR A 60" SILVERTIP? DO YOU MEASURE FROM THE STRING TO THE DEEP OF THE THROAT OR TO THE RISER ?
