Are deer discouraged or attracted to freshly harvested corn fields?

23feetupandhappy

Oh they are attracted big time!

There's something about a freshly picked field that brings them out of the wood work!
For one all their summer cover is gone but it's more then that.

I know a guy that has a couple ofl acres of corn that he leaves standing for the deer and he will go out and mow off a couple swathes for late muzzy season and they are on it like flies on poop!!!

I love hunting near a field ( corn or beans) as it's being picked, never seen dear shy away from it

I don't normally hunt corn fields early in the season however I was hunting close to one and kept seeing the deer getting in it.  It's hot now like pushing 90 and don't make no sense to me to hunt corn at 90 but ya gotta be flexible so moved a stand  and shot a couple from it in a couple weeks.  It don't always work like that but ya gotta love it when it does

Fresh cut corn is a magnet most times. It seems they sense the same security when its first cut that they had when it was up and boldly walk right in sight first few days.

I never had luck hunting in corn fields - up or cut.  But I do believe a cut field changes the paths deer will take to stay in cover.

I always tried to be 40 yards inside the woods beside a freshly cut field in the "back corners" (away from the road).

But then, that's the same place I liked when the corn was up.  ;-)
