I'll take all of it I can get!!!

With the weather changing due to the on coming hurricane I figured last night would be a good evening to hunt. As luck would have it I was right. With acorns raining all around me I settled in a bit before 6pm. The majority of the evening was uneventful, but just before dark I heard movement behind me. Moments later I saw the deer, and the fact that it had a pretty nice rack! And then the adrenaline kicked in. I stood and readied myself for the shot. The buck came in super slowly and I began to shake pretty hard. At one point though he hung up behind a tree and I was able to gather myself and get ready for the shot. After a minute or two he finally stepped out from behind the tree and into my shooting lane. I picked my spot and drew, in an instant the lumenok came on and streaked towards the deer. I could see him moving, as if in slow motion, trying to get out of the way, but the arrow met him anyways. At the impact I heard a loud crack and the buck tore out with my arrow in tow. Not good was my first thought. As he bounded away I could see my pink nock going with him. then, after a 40 yard sprint, he stopped and stood still. Then he stumbled to the left, then back to the right. Pausing for a bit, I could still see the glow of my nock...it looked to be pretty far forward. As I'm sitting there thinking the worst he eases down the hill another 20 yards or so and stops again. I see the lumenok shake vigorously aand then it goes dark. I couldn't here any movement despite him being less than 50 yards from me so I eased down and checked where he was standing at the shot. Immediately I found good blood. Not wanting to risk it I backed out and gave him an hour. I met up with my dad and uncle and we took up the trail. After just a few steps into it I knew we were going to find the buck where I last saw him. The blood was spraying out of him, and when he went down the hill it looked like you poured it out of a milk jug. Sure enough, right where I last saw him was where he laid. The shot was not where I wanted, right in the neck, but it was very effective and the buck died quickly. After some congratulations we got him loaded up and to the skinning pole.  To say the least I was super happy with the buck, and all the luck that came along with it.
