About 5 years ago I had shoulder surgery and after literally a lifetime of traditional archery, I pretty much hung it up. I had regained full range of motion but my shoulder just didn't feel "right" and I couldn't seem to get the full strength back. This timing also coincided with our kids being born, so of course free time was at a premium. I sold off a bunch of bows. It seemed like the end of something that had been really important to me.
However, I did keep one little 15#er and refinished it thinking the kids might be interested some day. Well out of the blue, my just turned 6 year old asked me about the bows on the rack in the basement. So we strung up the little recurve and went in the backyard. It was like a duck to water and she couldn't get enough (like a lot of kids I think).
So last weekend,  we did our first 3d shoot together and had a great time. I've started working out again (carefully) and I'm going to get that damn shoulder back no matter what it takes! What a joy to a proud dad, and I'm thankful to my sweet baby girl for re-lighting that fire for archery in me! Hopefully a lifetime of shooting and hunting are ahead of us. But I'll settle for the tome spent together for now.

Great stuff right there.  Good luck on the rehab.  You have great motivation there!

Sounds like you may have just lit two fires. Hope they both burn strong.

I notice you already have her as your arrow caddy.  I love watching kids fall in love with the bows-my 4-H kids inspire me.  Congrats on having a great shooting partner

Congrats and enjoy! Sounds just like my story (without the surgery), back at it again after making 4 kids, a pair at a time. Now the two oldest go to shoots with me! I bought them little fiberglass Bear sticks for their third birthday, and they started coming with me this target season.

Proud daddy here too!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Kids are just the best thing there is.

And yeah, she asked to be my arrow caddy! I was shooting a little 40# "rehab" bow and had no quiver, so she offered. She loves her new back quiver.
