So, I have GT Traditional Classic in .600 spine that I want to externally foot with small sections of aluminum arrow. Problem is, OD of these arrows is only .220" and the right size of aluminum arrow would be either 1615's or 1720's. Are they even aluminum arrows in those sizes? Any suggestions?

Actually, now that I think about it I believe the ID of the 1617 is .216".

With the first two numbers being OD in 64th's; SO, 16/64=.25....and then the last two numbers being wall thickness in thousandth's;

SO, ID=OD-(Wall Thickness)(2) or ID={16/64(or .25)} - { (.017)(2)}(or .034)

SO, ID=(.25-.034)=.216

It looks like you(or I) used the two sets of numbers in the opposite order, which when I do that I get the .2336 that you did. Can someone please confirm which of us is right and which is wrong?

IF I AM CORRECT, then 1720's would have an ID of .225" and the 1615 's .220". 1614's would also work, at .222". The thing about this is, which of these sizes are arrows actually made in? Doesn't look like the Easton Platinum Plus come in any of these sizes, but it does come in 1716 which is the .2336" that was mentioned earlier. I'd just like to know for sure if that is the correct ID???

You can't use a footing with an ID exactly the same as the shafts diameter.It will be too tight.Ideally,.007 larger is about right.I don't bother with the math anymore.I use this chart.You also have to choose a size that is available.The platinums are about the cheapest that comes in a variety of sizes.

Save it.

The Eclipse comes in a 1614 which should be .222 which might work.Make sure the tubing ends aren't pinched in by a tubing cutter.I burnish the ends by twisting the point of a field point in there and light sanding of the carbon shaft end can help,plus thin glue.

If there is too much play,use a paste epoxy or Gorilla glue.

Ok, perfect! I think I'll go with the 1614's and proceed as you described. Should look pretty cool with a black footing! The GT ballistic collars are another option but I don't like how short they are...
