I can't say enough positive about Kanati. I have a 56" that changed my way of thinking on d/r hybrid longbows. Lots of good options out there, and as always, if you can, try before you buy.

Another vote for the Shrew!

FYI: Kirk at Bigfoot very recently posted (elsewhere) that he's not taking new orders.

I have a 54" Toelke Pika 53# @ 26".  It draws smoothly with no finger pinch and is extremely quiet. All I hear on the shot is the arrow impacting the target.  It shoots 660 grain Easton Camohunter 2117s with 250 up front like lasers. Got it from Dan in 4 weeks. Cannot be beaten for the price and the turnaround time in production. Sure, there are other great short longbows out there, but I don't want to wait til retirement age before the bow actually gets to me. Go with Toelke.

How short do you want to go.  The 60" "Short Night" from 7 Lakes Archery would work well for your 27" draw.  You don't have to a riser forward bow and mine still works fine in a tree stand or blind.

Dwyer Endeavor,58" smooth and quiet.Dave and Sue are great folks.

Kanati, Toelke Pika and Centaur are the best I've tried..

Shrew bows....the Shrews being built now are the absolute best they have ever been.

Another recommendation for JavaMan Elkheart or a Gregg Coffey built Shrew Classic Hunter if you can find a used one.

Mark Colangelo

Thanks everyone! I have decided to have a bow built as opposed buying used. I have been in contact with Gregg Coffee about an Elkheart and I messaged Ron Leclair about a shrew but have not had response. Thanks again for all the responses its been super helpful!

Gregg is usually right on it in the reply department. May be out of town or something. He will get back with you.

Careful, these little things are proving addictive. Ever since I started playing with one I haven't wanted to stop!

Gregg was very quick. I still have not heard from Ron however. Maybe he is out of town.

Ron will get back to you, sometimes it takes a few days.  You can also contact Jim Belcher at Sky Archery directly to discuss your specs and wood choices.  I'm a huge fan of Gregg's work but the wait time is quite long.  I don't think Jim gets as crazy with some of the options like Gregg, but the new limb design is intriguing and the wait time is significantly shorter.  It all depends on what you're happy with.
