So I applied for my WY Antelope tags, but I'm searching for option #2 in the event that I don't draw a tag. Colorado has unlimited, leftover archery elk and pronghorn tags, among others. Do any of you guys consistently hunt states with leftover tags annually  and if so, what states do you hunt? Also, have any of you just gone out on a DIY hunt cold? I prefer DIY hunts, relying on my woodsmanship skills and intellect to research and hunt new areas. I suspect many of you do too.

Not trying to be Mr. Picky, but terminology wise Colorado doesn't have any unlimited leftover licences.  The good news is that there are unlimited over the counter licences for antelope and elk in many units.

There will also be some leftover licences after the draw that will go on sale first come first serve in early August.

Colorado OTC tags don't get the respect the draw units get but there are plenty of good opportunities if you do some planning.

Thanks. I used the term Leftover/OTC (unlimited) because thats the term they used for their page link.

Roadkill

None in Nevada.  All big game, any weapon by draw.  Only mountain lion is OTC for us.

You have got to look at Oregon for 4 weeks of Sept deer, elk, bear hunting opportunities. If you got questions just ask.

Dennis, lots of great opportunity in the West, Colorado, idaho, Oregon, and Montana provide some great general unit hunts. GO HUNT, is a great resource for researching specific areas and narrowing down your options. I'll be out west hunting every year, there's too much opportunity not to. Best of luck.
All we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us.

The dakotas and Nebraska should be on your list.

Interesting. I'm intrigued!

Idaho, NE & Dakotas would be great too.

I think OTC antelope in NE or spot & stalk mulie hunting in NE or dakotas would be fun.

I see how the terminology got mixed up.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Here's my suggestion but not sure what your priorities are.
*Spring Black Bear is amazing especially in SW.
*Spring turkey season.
*Sept., 4 weeks of Roosevelt or Rocky mtn elk, mule deer, blacktail, whitetail, bear, turkey,
*Buy rifle western deer tag for blacktails and you can legal hunt with bow. Suggest hunting last two weeks of season which is end of Oct, beginning of Nov for a great blacktail buck.
*November general western archery blacktail season, great time also for a slug blacktail, recommend eastern side of Alsea unit and eastern side of Siuslaw unit.
I live on the west side so I focus on Big Roosvelts, blacktails, and big bears.
Also something to think about is our controlled Rocky mtn elk units, we got some sleeper trophy bulls that would expand your quest for a trophy bull without taking so long to draw. Apply in May get results in June. In 3 to 5 years worth of points you can be hunting for a good Rocky.
Also a traditional only mule deer hunt in SE Oregon next to Nev., that might interest you, some decent bucks there, high desert hunt that your guaranteed to draw when you apply.
I posted a thread on Oregon Roosvelt bull elk last year, try and find it to see the monster B&C size bulls that got posted that I took pics of over the years from chasing them.
Also if you want more personal help, I might do a trade for a hunt if you have something that is cool too.

Here's a thread from last year I posted.
