Can any one explain the difference between a two finger and a three finger tiller to me? What makes it different? If I have a two finger tillered bow and shoot it with three fingers under how bad is that. And by two and three finger I mean two fingers under the nock and one above or all three fingers under the nock. The reason I ask is I am wanting to get into trad bow hunting and I want to shoot three fingers under. I am just wondering how much of a difference it would make if I had a bow that was made to shoot two fingers under and I shot it three fingers under. Dose this make any sense? Thanks

WSCRUGGS,don't know the diff. but have read that if till. for split,, raise the knock pt. to shoot 3 under.

In my past experience of making bows I do not think it is that critical.  The ideal situation as described by bowyers is that on split you want the upper limb stronger than the bottom limb where as in shooting 3 under you want both limbs equal.  You got to remember that in tillering for split you measure the string on the strung bow from the fade out to the string on both top and bottom limb.  Usually the difference between this measurement is usally not more than 1/4 in.  In 3 under the measurement would be the same.  In my opinion very little difference in measurement to make a critical difference on how you shoot it.  About the only adjustment you really have to do is move the nock on the string up more for 3 under.  You just got to experiment with it.

6 POINT

I don't remember the mass bowyers of the past or present,Bear,Pearson,Howatt,Martin etc. ever having offered the option of split of 3 under. Doubt that it makes all that much difference. JMHO Frank
