I don't mind the getting hot part of it but the deer do. Besides a bunch of sweaty guys smelling up the woods, the deer weren't moving until after dark. Opening weekend last year was so hot we opted to cut a 4 day weekend short because of the heat and humidity. After 4 sits with 6 to 8 hunters and very few sightings....its time to go home early and save a few "home credits" for a later hunt.

I don't know what's different this year but I have pictures of deer at all hours of the day. My two best bucks are up and moving between 2pm and 4pm. The worst part is getting them cooled down and out of the woods quickly.

Where you fellas hunt redneck you may not be able to do it but where I hunt I carry a backpack and plastic bags and he gets dressed right there.Boned out everything. When I get to the truck the meat goes in the cooler and when I get home I soak it for two days then cube it or grind it or whatever.No more dragging critters for me if I can help it.RC

Here in Oklahoma we can only field dress before we go to the check station. After we get a deer checked in we can get it off to the processor or to the house.

The last two weeks have been unseasonably cool and WET (I measured 63 degrees at 6:30pm earlier this week). I have also seen deer out and moving at all times of the day. I think it is because they get tired of laying in the mud.

The woods are so overgrown this year, I may have to change my hunting tactics. The last big ice storm knocked the tops out of all the trees letting in more light. With all the rain this year the understory has had a growth explosion. Thats OK, all those little trees (paw paws, dogwoods, spicebush and redbuds) are good deer food, and the stress on the bigger trees makes them produce more hickory nuts, pecans, acorns and perssimions.

I hear you RC. Where I do most of my hunting the deer are on ice within 45 minutes of me laying my hands on them. keith here in Ga. we don't have to check deer in but if we did then that might pose a problem with our heat and humidity during bowseason and the season for the rest of them till late Oct or early Nov. Sounds like yall have had plenty of rain that we haven't had.

Bow...check.  Arrows....check.  Broadheads sharp...check (ask the gash I put on my thumb today).  Stand for opener...check.  ThermaCell with extra cartridge....double check.  Dreams of one of these "monster" East Jawgia deer coming in the morning...priceless!

Gonna be tough to sleep tonight....Chase will be up every hour asking "Is it time yet??!!??"

I NEVER thought I would ever say it, but we may have got too much rain. Our Bow season starts the first part of Oct. and runs to the middle of Jan. It can be anywhere from frying hot, to freezing cold (sometimes all in the same day).

Beats watching TV though!

Had a good morning having a 6pt and a spike within 7yds but passed. I didn't go back this evening as the mail delieviered my new MOAB. I spent this evening getting it dialed in. I'll try to christen it in the morning.

Went this evening... IT WAS TOO HOT!!!! thermacell worked like a charm...but sweated my toukas off...And I was wearing a leafy mesh suit over shorts and  a T-shirt!

Only seen were and a dilla that got a pass as I didn't have an old arra with me... Its in the quiver now though...

Killed a doe Saturday morning. Went to Matt Schusters and hung a stand for evening hunt. over 90 degrees and humid as it could get without being actual rain. Got it up and was gonna trim some branches for the walk in when I nearly stepped on a nice rattlesnake righth where we'd been standing for 15 minutes. Don't know how we didn't step on him  Matt decided it was pretty enough to go home with him. 16 rattles and a really pretty light brown color.

Deer sigthings were slim leaning towards none where I was hanging.  I did spot one doe on the way out of the woods this morning.  Got into some hogs last night and should have some pork to post, but I got greedy and hung on for the 100 pound sow and passed on the 25 pounders at my feet.  Plan to take my Danny Beckwith Hatchet Bow out to that spot next Saturday and I won't be so picky then.

Tough moon phases this past weekend. Major feed times were mid-day. Too hot for me by then.
