bark quivers

Hi there all,still here. I havent been assasinated yet after bringing up that raptor thing.I saw a natural bark quiver at the JLMBH and thoght it was way cool.Whoever owns it, if you wouldnt mind tell me a little about it.Id like to try and make one myself.Working on a deer and bison combo right now but with hunting winding down Id like to get another project going.Thanks

That was an awesome quiver.  LQQked like white brich folded in a "U" shade with rounded sides and hand sewn.

i bet your talking about Aram's back quiver. he had it when he came up to hunt with me, it was so nice i took a couple pic's of it. is this the one your talking about?

Nice quiver indeed, looks like poplar.
I use to make a lot of containers from poplar bark. You gotta do it as soon as you skin it from the log though, how ever wide the peice is you take off, your container will be twice as wide. You also have to cut the peice twice as long as you want the container to be.

hey fellas,

i've made a bunch of quivers and baskets over the years with poplar bark.  the best time to remove the bark is in the spring with the sap is up but i've also done it during otehr times of the year.  you can also flatten it out and store it and then soak it and shape it later.  quick cool story:  i saw a guy give a demo at a primitive skills gathering and he asked the kids where they had seen that shape before and one of them yelled "at mcdonalds"  and he say said, "exactly" and pulled out a french fry container that he had taken apart and it was the same pattern     so if you want a template just go get some frys.     i love these baskets personally and have some bark already cut out that needs soakin'.  here in VA we call them mountain berry baskets.

Thats it Ken,thanks your the man!That is a remarkable piece of equipment.Thanks Green Arra and Flint.Ill be scouring the hills for just the right tree this gobbler season,Ill be sure to let you know how it goes.I think Ill have enough deer and bison leather left over to make a leather strap for it too.
