The only thing that ever scared me about my table saw was the crappy " guard" that came with it. It was made of steel and wobbled so badly that I was afraid it would hit the blade. Needless to say it's been buried away on a shelf somewhere in the shop where it won't hurt anyone.
The guards I'm seeing on new saws these days look functional and like someone actually put some thought into them.
