Osage questions

Is there any issue with those little pin knots in Osage? As far as being structurally sound for riser material? I don't mind looking at them just don't want to have problems down the road.

Also, will Osage still darken and get that Carmel/honey color under Tbird finish?

I wouldn't think pin knots would hurt in a riser. They are only problems on a selfbow and not that often.
If the T Bird has a UV blocker it may at least slow the darkening which is cause by sunlight. And eventually osage will turn almost black if you wait ling enough.

Thunderbird doesn't have uv blockers . I like canary wood better than osage .

Don't worry about it turning brown, It will take a long time unless you let sunlight shine on it for a while.
I have a Osage walking stick in the window, took it a long time for it to turn.

Those pin knots will look cool

Oh hell no don't trust it.

That gwass bow will be dust in no time if that riser blows up.

Just send it to me and I'll make a real bow out of it.

But it takes years for it to darken up.

I didn't think the pin knots were a problem.

As far as color change.....I actually prefer it when Osage darkens. I have some rough sawn stuff in the garage and it got a nice golden color in just a couple years.

Roy, I'd gladly send ya some if it was longer. These are all short logs that are basically only good for riser wood.

Ive got some Osage cutoffs that have been stored in my shop for 15yrs and they are purple!
Makes me think that oxidation plays a part, along with UV in the darkening process.

About that Osage..... I might have exaggerated about the color. It's more like it has a purple hue.
It's kind of a Brownurple color.

Just have to take my word for it, if you squint just right you will be able to see the purple part of the spectrum.
