Hello, I've been lurking and reading for a couple months now and am just getting into trad bows now coming from compounds.
In that time span I have found three vintage Bear bows show up on my wall (no judgement right?)

Anyway the newest one, a 59' Kodiak Special 64"AMO 52# came with a flemish string with a measurement of 64", obviously the wrong string and I am making a new one tonight to replace it. My question is on brace height. Do all the Bear recurve bows of this era have the same brace height of 7.5" to 8"
Or is it differing per model.

Thanks in advance.
Bruce.

Welcome to TradGang!

I have several vintage Bear bows, and find that an 8" brace height works well on them.  Someone may have more specific information.  In general, the longer a recurve is, the higher the brace height.  My Bear bows are all 60". I would imagine that a 64" would take a brace height of at least 8", if not more, perhaps 8 - 8 1/4"?

What Dave said, but as the high end for me would be the 8".

In the 1959 Bear catalog, it list the brace height for the Kodiak Special 62" @ 6-1/4 to 7-1/4 inches, longer versions 7-8 inches.

Bruce M

Thank you for that. Do you have that catalogue, if so that is pretty cool. I love the old stuff.

MSwickard

No I don't have the actual catalog, but go to this link and there is a great deal of interesting reading!
