I just got word of the passing of Jason Hairston, founder of Kuiu.

I don't believe a cause has been announced only rumors.

This is truly saddening news and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family...

Terrible news, so sad, praying for family and friends.
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.

I remember being in a hotel room at the PBS Banquet in Salt Lake City back in 06' meeting Jason for the 1st time as he introduced Sitka Gear to a group of 20-25.  This little get together was set up by Nathan Andersohn.  As I remember, TJ Conrads, Dick Robertson, Dennis Kamstra, Doug Borland, Steve Hohensee, Larry Yien and others were there.  We were encouraged to attend with a little inducement of adult beverages being offered even in SLC.  Jason was very a enthusiastic promoter of Sitka and you knew was going to be successful in the endeavor.  Of course, his greatest success came with Kuiu.  He touched many lives in and out of the hunting world.

I offer prayers to his family.

Best wishes to Jason's family, and friends during this difficult time.

Sad news indeed.  It was reported on the KUIU webpage that Jason took his own life.  Prayers for his wife and 2 children.  May God rest his soul and that he may find the peace in the Lord, that he did not find on Earth.

As a former NFL star linebacker of the Frisco 49 ers and the Denver Broncos he had a lot of head trauma during his youth and as a young adult. He possibly suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and severe and sudden depression is one of the desease aspect.
That guy was a great athlete and a heck of a businessman founder of SITKA and later KUIU.
KUIU is the top brand in hunting modern clothing. I hope kuiu will last and grow as a tribute to a huge character.
It is a pity to hear that sad new.
My prayers to the family.

A true tragedy prayers for his family and friends. The community at large has lost a good man.
Bowhunting is a passion, not an obsession. Its just hard for my wife to tell the difference sometimes.

Jason had returned from hunting in Alaska with his father and son.  A friend, told the Daily Mail, he suffered from CTE. Frank Gifford and Mark Gastineau suffered from the degenerative brain disease, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).  You can find it online.
