I finally committed to going to a 3D shoot this weekend. They take place all summer in TX, but I'm always too busy, too sore, too tired, etc. With two months to go before deer season, and feeling like I was shooting too much in my comfort zone, I decided it was time to put my rebuilt shot to the test. I figured the added pressure is a good check on whether I'm really in control of my shot or not.

The last time I shot 3D was a few years ago, and I was still struggling mightily with target panic. I was pretty nervous going into the shoot today. Compounding things, my shooting fell apart this week at the shop! All in all, I didn't expect much. But I shot waaay better than I expected. I felt like I shot at an almost respectable level!

I didn't know how much fun 3D is when you aren't freaking out internally about every shot you face! It was a blast! I felt like I was pretty controlled with my shooting, and the only bad shots were from lack of focus, not panic. I was sad to see the end of the course, in spite of the mid 90's heat by 10 am. Anyways, all that to say that you guys should shoot out of your comfort zone on occasion! You just might be surprised.

Oh yeah, pictures!

This ram was an optional shot, about 25 yards down a hill, with a tree to shoot around. I opted for that instead of trying to head shoot a zip lining zombie... :biglaugh:

Good pics TD.  Always fun to mix it up once in awhile.

Now I really want to see a pic of the zip lining zombie target!  Great shooting!  I completely agree that shooting 3D is a great way to challenge yourself for hunting season.  And its just plain fun!

Good seeing you today Malachi!!!! 3D is a blast!

You need to get in better shape though! [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38] I shot 4 rounds, and it got way hotter than mid 90's this afternoon!!!!

The course for this shoot was one of the best setups Austin Archery Club has set in a long time! Kudos to those who did all the great work!

I shoot approximately thirty 3D's a year. It is great break from daily practice on the home ranges and provides some great camaraderie opportunities with my trad buddies. Occasionally, a 3D has some significant challenges such as the one I attended today. Thirty yard plus small targets on severe downhill and uphill targets. Twenty-seven yard targets on turkeys. No large targets were used on this range setup. Yes...my limits were vividly revealed.

I've always wanted to do a 3D shoot but, I don't even know if they have one anywhere around my areas. Glad you were able to get out and have some fun! Great pics too! TW

Good to see you too Bisch! But I think the sun must have addled your brains to think 4 rounds in this heat was a good idea!  :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Looks like a lot of fun that!

Would love to have something like that around here. Would be a nice change from shooting a big hay bale or bashing a tennis ball around the paddock with blunts, as much fun as that is.

Like some of that warm weather around here too, hasn't been much above a wet rainy 40° for weeks and weeks. Roll on spring.

Best

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......

I am spoiled.

One 3D shoot is 15 "s away

Two are 30"s away

Three are an hour away
