Thinking of using some quilted Sapele for a ASL longbow riser has anyone tried it. Just wondering if it's strong enough.
The human body is the only machine the harder you work it, the stronger it gets.

I have built two d/r longbows with it this year. I have one and dmaxshawn has the other. One is #50 and the other is #55. Mine has had plenty of shots with no ill effects...the other not so many, but still a lot.

I made this Sapele bow for Helens Father earlier this year. It is a 58" recurve and 32# at 28" draw weight. The Sapele in the riser was not highly figured though...

Thanks guys I think I'll try it. It seems heavy and strong enough just never heard of anyone using it.

I did add 2 pieces of 030 fiberglass to the back of the bow. If the bow would have been over 40# I would have put 3 pieces of 030 glass in the riser.

I'm making one right now. The Sapele feels very light and doesnt give me the impression of being very strong. Could be wrong. The bow is only about 38# so it should be fine.  Good luck on yours.
