I'm interested in building a riser for some limbs that I have. The limbs are off of a cheap PSE magnesium handled bow, the thing weighs a ton.

How difficult would it be to build a T/D riser for the limbs?
Is there a book or build along you can recommend?
Thanks,
Jim

It can be done, many different ways, the limb pad angles will be the most critical areas, the riser length should be the same. I haven't been here for a while so I would hope some of the more current bow building vets chime in.

Also, what is the configuration of the takedown system? 1 pin 1 bolt?

I will check the limb connections later. I believe it has one bolt and the riser is sort of recessed(like a pocket) for the limb.
Thanks guys.

You could always just add an alignment pin. might be easier than trying to replicate that pocket alignment system.

That shouldn't be too big of a problem. The trickiest part will be getting the bolt and alignment pins spaced and aligned properly. You can measure the riser length and the limb pad angles (+/- a degree or two won't kill you) and glue a riser up. Go for it!

I'm going to give it a shot. What do you guys recommend for riser wood?

Is there a book or tutorial anyone can recommend?

I have some basic woodworking skills but not bow making skills.Thanks.

James, I am looking at the PSE risers on the internet  and they look to be an "IFL" design, Is this true for your limbs?

If yes, do a google search of "IFL wood riser build along" I found a few good things on making it work. If ya need any help tracking down any of the links or supplies let me know and I will help ya where I can...

It's a bowfishing rig called the Kingfisher. It actually shoots really well as is but it's super heavy.
Not an ILF system. Thanks, Jim

Do some experimenting before you spend a lot of money on riser wood. Buy an 8' 2X4 and build 4 risers. Use lag bolts to secure the limbs till you get everything aligned. Get what you want and then use your good riser wood and make a copy.
