Are they wood or something else?

What are the contrasting thin stripes between different colors,shapes in those fancy risers? If they are wood, which species bends easily and if it's some kind of plastic, where do I get it?

Could be phenolic, fiberglass or some type of wood.
Using phenolic or synthetic strips will add strength to risers.

i used zebrawood and a bunch of red and black 050 fiberglass in this riser

this one has 3 pieces of 040 brown fiberglass between each piece of Bubinga

1/8" Black and red phenolic (I belive it is made from linen impregnated with some type of polymer..) from KennyM on this site laminated between Grey actionwood/dymondwood. Relitively easy process...cut your riser block in half, epoxy all sides, clamp together and throw in the bow oven for a few hours. Then just shape the riser as you normally would.
