This is #5 for me and has put me to the test and tried a couple of times to rest in the kindling box...  It's knotty, lumpy with flat spots that don't bend perfect. It is too wide with handle splices to fix a mistake I made...  But it really shoots sweet. How weird is that? I am such a novice and still don't understand the mechanics but for what ever reason this bow 64"s 56@27 (ouch for me) shoots as good as any bow in the rack and better than most??????

Anyway here are some pics. When I get it sanded and all dressed up I'll post a shooter video   :)

In the target closet

Before shooting 60 or 70 arrows

1 hour after shooting...  took a little set

After covering my partners vacation and working 10hrs a day 12 days straight I could not wait to go play with some wood.

I post this stave here and got some good feedback ....

I'm asking again for some ideas this time about layout. One end of the stave is very clean but the other is full of knots.

I would try to work the bow around the knots on the edges and get the others as centered in the limb as possible. Go with 64" to 66" for a 28" draw.

What wood is that? Whitewood doesnt care for any knots, it isnt impossible to build a ww bow with knots, but I wont anymore!

It's Chittamwood Wooly Buckthorn Chris...  I've got it and it's dry so I'm going to take a wack at it? I really don't know anything about it?

How wide Pat?

The stave is 3"s wide...  here are the knot locations? The knot at 54 and 60 are my biggest problem... since one end of the stave is pristine I can move the knots to the most advantageous place for a 64" give of take bow...

No less than 1 1/2" wide and if you have to go less make the bow longer.
I've never used that wood so I'm only guessing. As long as you have enough "meat" around the knots you should be OK. Also, I'd saturate all the knots left in the bow both the regular knots and the pins. If you are still concerned back it with rawhide, silk or linen.

Pat what with?  Sorry to be dumb?

Sorry Kip, super glue. I always have super glue handy while building bows. Checks, cracks and knots all get a dose of superglue.

Thanks Pat, I'll soak them thursday     :)

Made a little progress today. Strange to make the limb around Knots... Her's the knotty limb shave down a bit... I hope this is what you meant by leaving wood around the knots?

You could probably toast it more but being a relatively unknown wood that is a good place to start.
