Various kinds of DIY dowel makers are on the market, but none seem to make perfect arrow shafts.Sometimes I wonder how the really big boys do it? Does anyone have a clue to how they do it? I have no intention of going into the arrow shaft business, but I am a curious soul.  Bue--.

I came across this one, have not seen one with two blades though. Costs a few bucks.  Bue--.

This is the machine that a friend of mine (Troy Breeding) used for making arrow shafts. He was not one of the "really big boys", they use much bigger gear, but Troy did sell shafts on this site years ago. He also used a pole sander which cost a similar amount.

The "big boys" use much better doweling machines than what we are talking about. The tolerances are far better and they can do multiple shafts at once. So for us we can only try and do what we can with the little we have if we want to try and make a few shafts. Which I will do just for the fun of it. But my serious shafts all come from Surewood Shafts.

I had about $30K just in the doweler, custom tapering machine, and sander. Then there was the Woodmizer sawmill, dehumidification kiln, gang rip, cutoff saw...

Well into six figures including the building.

A good sharp hand plane and a grooved board will make as good a shaft as there is.

Fujimo, took too much risk and paid the price. I would do it differently today. Hind sight...
