My first Hackberry Bow

I have just finished up my first Hackberry Bow and I wanted to share it with everyone here. I started making bows in April this year and so far I have completed three. My first was a Osage flatbow, and out of that stave, I ended up with enough wood left over to make my daughter a sister bow.
But the first bow I've made out of a tree that I cut myself is this Hackberry bow. It taught me alot and I am really liking this bow. Here are a few pictures.

I have around 200 shots through this bow and so far so good. It is around 65" NTN and comes in at 45# @ 28". I originally had it at 72" but I came in under weight on it and it needed to be shortend to have at least the 45#'s it has. I put some Osage tip overlays on it. I believe I still need to thin them out a bit....they seem a little too thick.
My son has made a bow out of this same tree and is in the process of finishing his up. I can't wait to take them to the woods.

Great Job on that one RingChaser. I really like hackberry also, my trade bow was made from it, and I'm putting the finishing touches on one for myself. Just put 8 staves away to dry for the future.....Dan

Nice bow, ringchaser. Say, that weight bench would make an exceptional shaving horse!

Nice job! I'm glad to see some Hackberry bows finally starting to surface. I've got a bunch of hackberry that I'm going to start finishing up soon, got one started but my trade bow has to be done first. Almost there with the trade bow, but life gets in the way sometimes.

I'm anxious to get back to work on my hackberry.

Nice lookin bow ringchaser. Lots of good hackberry bows coming out of the woodworks these days. What part of oklahoma you from?

That's just what I thought...lol..It's the most I've ever used it.

Thanks for all of the kind words guys. Good thing about Hackberry is it grows all over the place here in Oklahoma.

I live around south of Stilwell. I put in for the Mcalester hunts for the first time this year after my son got me to making these bows. I hope we draw in and get a chance to hunt down there. I heard lots of good things about that place.

I've gotten lucky and got drawn in at mcalester the last two years. You wont be disappointed if you get to go. Its kinda nice to go to a place where everyone has to hunt with traditional gear. I missed a monster buck the first morning and saw plenty of other big bucks while I was there. I guess we'll know something in a couple of weeks. I really cant see myself getting drawn out this year again but you never know. Good Luck.
