What do you use for a clear coat on wood arrow shafts?  I have been considering Fletch Lac and Fletch Lac Super Coat from Bohning, but need some confirmation before purchasing.  Thoughts??  MK

I use gaskent laquer and love it. I have used Minwax poly in a pvc tube as well, it works. Gasket sealer is fast and easy, right up my alley. If you use Bohning sealer you have to use Bohning products clear through the project.

I always used water based poly on store bought shafts with good results and very little fumes if any. Dip, let it dry over night and dip again. A light buffing with 0000 steel wool helps to smooth it all out. I used Duco or fletch tape for fletching.

I have had good results using water based poly as far as weather sealing but I am back to using Bohning for my clear sealing and crown dipping. It is easy to use and is the best looking for those applications when dipping, the thinner just stinks to high heaven. I suggest building a cabinet you can hang the arrows in and doing it outside. The thing about nothing being compatible with Bohning is only half true. Almost no finishes are compatible under Bohning but some can be applied over it. I use Whispering Wind cresting paints so I don't have to use the FletchLac thinner indoors. If you want to seal over the cresting some oil based finishes can be dipped over as well, but they may put a yellow tint on white dips. You'll have to do some experimenting if you go that route. Also I have not tried the super coat, but clear is pretty tough already.

You can also wipe on the water based poly with a piece of old t-shirt. By the time you get done with the coat on the last arrow, you can re-coat the first one again. I wipe on 3 or 4 coats at least.

Another good finish is Dalys Profin.
