With the bad economy I have not seen any boards in town that would work for a bow since last winter. In facted I think they are the same ones from last year. Yesterday I took a day off from hunting and took my daughter to view a college campus. My plan was to check the local home depots and lowes for boards afterwards. Well the pickins were slim, one I could have maybe had enough for one splice. Well with the girls still at the mall and a failed quest I went to the a mega hunting store to browse. I was listening to two teenagers asking the "bow tech" for a long tillering string. Of course the bow tech had a blank look on his face. I when over to help the two young men and pionting them to some resourses. After talking to them they had a high school shop competion on building board bows. I suspect thats were most of the boards have gone. Well I guess like always I'm a dollar short and a day late again.

I too looked for months and months for the perfect board.  Finally I just ended up getting a less then perfect board and relegated myself to the fact that I will have to back it.

Alway a good idea to walk away when you find a board with lousy grain. Jawge

i called a local sawmil , drove 20 minutes , and paid $.07 more per board foot for quartersawn oak that is gooooorgeous.

i also picked up a red oak 2x2 s4s at home depot yesterday that im using for handles and overlays , but if i knew how to splice , im sure a 36" 2x2 cut down the middle could be spliced into something useable...

my next step is the take my hatched into the woods...
ain't got no gas in it...mmmhmmm...
