Since i'm just getting in the game of making my own arras (still waiting on my wood shafts to make some full fledged ones) I thought i'd try a b-a-l that caught my eye long ago, Guru's spiral flu-flu's.

Gotta tell you guru, what a great build-a-long, thank you for making that for us. These are the results I got with the fletching I dyed the other day and using a couple of my carbons that the fletching needed re-doing anyway. I did end one fletch a little short of the nock end, but there's a learning curve to be had. I also used loctite's new impact resistant gel glue. Got it for like $4 and the gel is SUPER easy to use, and holds after like 15 seconds.

Nice flu flus.  That's how I fletch mine.

kelly : thats what i was thinking... it would look great if you got some that split up real evenly like a giant hackle...

im still trying to find some hunters or at leasgt a few sets of feathers to try this with... i think if you skin them real good , they will splay out a little more evenly.

im sure as you shoot em they spread a little...

i love em, was readin up on em yesterday , and thats exactly what i need. a nice 30# bow and some long flu flus , and back yard trap  can happen...

Maybe if you wraped them around a larger diameter stick, or dowl, that might make the them open up more. Or maybe tigher spirals or both. But they look neat just as is.

im not saying they dont look great , but being  a fly fisherman makes me want to spread them all out so the arrow sits nice and high...

hell id probably hit it with some floatant...

They actually fly really well. It's crazy how much spin they generate with those flu-flu's, but they still carry a lot of kinteic energy into the target. I tried spreading the feathers as best I could, but they ended up looking like they do anyway.

It was an awesome, and very easy to do project. I would definitely recommend it and give Guru thumbs way up for the tutorial.
