Thinking about building a few tri lam bows. Boo backed static curve and a reflex/deflex.

Aproximately how thick do I want my belly lam after I pre tiller my main core for about a 50 to 60 pound bow.

Also some pics would be cool.

Depends on how thick your core is.  I think the last two I glued up the total was around .5".  I glue a power lam in as well.

There is a tri lam in the buildalong section isnt there?  Bamboo backed osage trilam if I am remembering correctly.

Here's the build along:

And here's a series of pics of me tillering a boo-walnut-osage trilam a few years ago

The asymmetric limbs have since gone out of tiller and I need to fix.  I guess it didn't like my 30+# draw much!

I boiled it for a few minutes and then bend it on the same jig as I bend the Walnut and Osage on.
Looking forward to seeing pic's of your project.
Bert.

It will probably be this winter before I get started on this one. Right now I'm just pondering the idea and planning ahead.

Seems I'm always two or three bows ahead of myself in my head.   :bigsmyl:

Is a tri-lam basically just 3 layers of wood? No glass? Do you use the same glue as for making glass bows?

Bert Frelink

Yes Johan,
No Glass, the pictures are of a Bamboo/Wanut/Osage combination, and yes all I use to glue them up is Smoot-On only because I have it on hand for my glass bows, Urac 185 is also popular for glueing wood to wood.
Bert.
