Hickory back?

I am going to cut and split some hickory tomorrow . Do I need to seal the back with anything after I peel the bark off?
Every one is ignorant its just on different subjects

I spray all stave backs and ends with shellac. It is relatively cheap, seals well and can easily be removed later. For me it is not worth chancing it.
