Has anyone ever used sycamore as a riser wood in a longbow? Thanks for replies. Flint

From what my local saw mill operator says sycamore is not a very stable wood for exterior applications like siding and the such.  From that description I would stay away from it when there are better woods out there for the project, like osage, walnut, maple, cherry, mullberry, etc...

sycamore is in the maple family. What I have used was like a softer maple. You could use it, but I would wrap the glass on both sides. {front and back} But there are better choices. If you have quartersawn it looks great as a vaneer. Mark

If you have a really nice Quarter sawn piece have it stabilized with Epoxy and it will work fine.
